Marcie Lightwood is Program Coordinator of Project Child, a child abuse prevention program operated under Valley Youth House. Marcie was managing 15 different committees along with many ever-changing programs dedicated to preventing child abuse in the Lehigh Valley. She didn't have the time or budget to develop an interactive website that would share the information her volunteers needed.
Action Potential knew Marcie needed the help of her community to get Project Child's website off the ground.
On Saturday, April 24, 2004, at 9:30AM, four friends and volunteers came to Marcie's house for a web-raising. Based on an Amish barn-raising, Action Potential brought laptops for the volunteers to build the Project Child website in one day. Most of the volunteers were not experienced computer users. All of them were able to build their section of the site. By noon, the Project Child website was complete! Check out what they did at www.projectchildlv.org
Now Marcie has all their projects listed on their site so that their members and funders can keep informed and actively engaged in their work. Asked what she thinks of Action Potential, Marcie said,
"Since many folks like me have the skills to build an organization, but not necessarily the skills to build a website, it was a real blessing to have the help of Action Potential. They did all they could to make it easy and painless for us to enter the 21st Century using today's technology. They are also there to help with new questions as they arise."
